August Wilson, A Celebration
A true literary giant and an extraordinary human being, August Wilson made it his life's work to chronicle the African-American experience throughout the 20th century.
Signature Theatre Company held its Annual Spring Gala on Monday, February 26th at the Ritz Carlton Battery Park, in honor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.

The night began with the presentation of the Signature Playwrights' Award to Time Warner Inc., in honor of their lead sponsorship of The Signature Ticket Initiative. This ticket subsidy program which subsidizes 70% of the cost of a regular ticket has made theatre accessible and affordable to all communities, offering over 50,000 $15 tickets throughout the 15th Anniversary season.
The celebration also included a tribute presentation directed by Seven Guitars cast member and Tony Award-winning actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Special guests including Phylicia Rashad, Mary Alice Smith, Charles Dutton, Delroy Lindo and Sakina Ansari Wilson also paid tribute to Wilson with personal anecdotes.
Other Special Guests included: Senator Liz Kreuger, Commissioner Kate Levin, City Council member Gail Brewer, City Council member David Weprin and Congressman Jerrold Nadler.
